Eye Movement Integration Therapy (EMIT)

Is EMIT right for you?

Sometimes we understand something logically, but it still feels as though our mind and body haven't caught up.

You might know you're safe now, yet still feel anxious. Or understand that an experience is in the past, yet continue to react as though it's happening in the present.

Eye Movement Integration Therapy (EMIT) uses guided eye movements to support the brain to process experiences that continue to affect the way you think, feel and respond today.

EMIT is offered as a dedicated therapeutic process for people wanting to work specifically with this approach.

The aim is for these experiences and responses to have less influence over the present, giving you more freedom in how you feel, respond and move forward.

EMIT may be helpful for...

  • Trauma and distressing life experiences

  • Anxiety and panic

  • Grief and loss

  • Low self-worth

  • Relationship patterns

  • Fears and phobias

  • Stress and overwhelm

  • Emotional triggers

  • Memories that continue to feel emotionally charged

My approach

I use EMIT flexibly, tailoring the process to what you're wanting to work on rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

We might focus on a particular experience, an emotional response or a pattern that continues to show up in your life. EMIT is usually focused around a particular issue or goal, although what we work on can change as the process unfolds.

You don't need to tell me every detail of what happened for us to work with it. We'll decide together what feels appropriate to focus on and work at a pace that feels manageable.

If you're already working with me in Individual Therapy and we decide EMIT may be useful, we can discuss moving into an EMIT process as part of our work together.

What you can expect

We'll begin by talking about what has brought you here, what you'd like to work on and whether EMIT is an appropriate approach for you.

During EMIT, I'll guide you through a series of eye movements while you notice thoughts, feelings, memories or sensations as they arise. There's no pressure to relive difficult experiences or share more than you feel comfortable sharing.

Many people describe feeling lighter or calmer afterwards, or noticing that memories no longer carry the same emotional intensity they did before.
